Cornell: Any Person, Any Study

A founding walk around Cornell's Arts Quad, built on the most idealistic promise in the Ivy League: Ezra Cornell's self-made fortune and Andrew Dickson White's scholarship joined in 1865 to make a university open to 'any person, any study,' on a farm hill high above Cayuga Lake. From the Libe Slope view Ezra chose, through Old Stone Row, the two founders' facing statues, McGraw Tower's chimes and the A.D. White Reading Room, and Goldwin Smith's humanities, to a close at Sage Chapel, where both founders are entombed.
