Columbia: 1968 & the Atom

A 20th-century history walk through Columbia's most turbulent chapter and its most consequential one. Beginning in Morningside Park at the 'Gym Crow' site and climbing into campus, the route traces the 1968 student uprising \u2014 the Sundial rally, the occupations of Hamilton Hall, Low Library, Mathematics, Avery and Fayerweather, and the April 30 police bust \u2014 then turns north to Pupin Physics Laboratories, where the atom was split in 1939 and the Manhattan Project took root. Two stories of a university entangled with power.
