Morningside Heights: The Academic Acropolis
New York, USA
A neighborhood walk that steps off the Columbia campus to take in the wider 'Academic Acropolis' of Morningside Heights \u2014 the plateau where cathedrals, seminaries, colleges, and monuments rose together on a former asylum hilltop around 1900. From the still-unfinished Cathedral of St. John the Divine and the writers' Hungarian Pastry Shop, past Tom's Restaurant (and the NASA climate lab above it), Barnard, and the Union and Jewish theological seminaries side by side, to Riverside Church, Grant's Tomb, and a quiet close among the cherry trees of Sakura Park.
